Google Stock came under pressure after the technology giant reported third-quarter financial results that fell short of Wall Street expectations, primarily due to weaker-than-anticipated advertising revenue. The earnings announcement, released after the market closed on Wednesday, highlighted a mixed performance, with strong growth in its cloud business failing to offset the shortfall in advertising sales.
Earnings and Revenue Miss Forecasts
Google Stock reported earnings per share (EPS) of $2.12 on total revenue of $127.58 billion for the third quarter. Analysts had expected earnings per share of $3.01 and revenue of $127.93 billion.
Revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs (TAC) stood at $111.21 billion, slightly below the market consensus of $111.29 billion. The results indicated that the company faced challenges in meeting investor expectations despite continued expansion across parts of its business.
Advertising Business Falls Short
Google’s advertising division remained a key source of weakness during the quarter. The segment generated $82.01 billion in sales, compared with analysts’ estimates of $83.5 billion.
The shortfall in advertising revenue weighed on the company’s overall performance, as this business continues to represent a significant component of Google’s earnings. The figures raised concerns about the pace of growth in its core advertising operations.
Google Cloud Delivers Strong Growth
In contrast, Google Cloud emerged as a bright spot in the quarterly results. The division reported revenue of $30.71 billion, surpassing analysts’ expectations of $29.1 billion. The company also highlighted growth of 103% in its cloud business, reflecting strong demand for its cloud services and related offerings.
However, the improvement in cloud performance was not sufficient to compensate for weaker advertising sales and the overall earnings shortfall.
Free Cash Flow and AI Developments in Focus
Google Stock’s free cash flow also came under scrutiny, with the reported figure declining from negative $5.85 billion in the second quarter to negative $9.06 billion in the third quarter. The deterioration may intensify investor concerns about cash generation and spending requirements.
The results arrived just hours after Google unveiled its latest frontier artificial intelligence model, Gemini 4 Carbon. The company said the new model outperforms its predecessor, Gemini 4 Argon, launched two weeks earlier, as well as competing models, including OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5.
Despite its AI advances and strong cloud performance, Google’s weaker advertising results and cash-flow pressures remained central concerns for investors.
