CoreWeave Stock (CRWV) fell 15% on Wednesday as concerns about the artificial intelligence infrastructure company’s rising borrowing costs intensified. The decline followed growing attention on social media to a chart showing a sharp increase in the yields on its corporate bonds, raising questions about the financial risks associated with the AI infrastructure boom.
According to Bloomberg, CoreWeave CEO Mike Intrator told employees in an internal memo that the market was behaving “irrationally.” He defended the company’s business model, customer relationships, operational performance and financial management, expressing confidence in its long-term prospects.
Intrator acknowledged that companies developing new technologies can face periods when investors misunderstand their business and react negatively. He also suggested that difficulties surrounding planned initial public offerings (IPOs) and debt financing efforts by rival companies were affecting market sentiment toward CoreWeave.
Bond Yields Raise Questions About Debt CoreWeave Stock
The latest concerns gained momentum on Tuesday after venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya shared a chart on X highlighting the rising yields on $1.25 billion worth of CoreWeave bonds maturing in 2032.
Palihapitiya noted that the bond yield had briefly touched 15% before closing at a record high of 14.5%. He questioned whether the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure was creating a bubble in private credit markets.
A bond’s yield generally rises when its market price falls. Therefore, a yield approaching 15% suggests investors are demanding significantly higher returns to lend money to CoreWeave, reflecting concerns about the risks associated with its debt.
Elon Musk, who owns X, responded to Palihapitiya’s post with a brief but striking reaction: “Yikes.” The exchange further amplified attention on the company’s borrowing costs and the financial pressures facing AI infrastructure providers.
Sell-Off Spreads Across AI Infrastructure Stocks
The pressure extended beyond CoreWeave Stock , affecting several companies linked to cloud computing, data centres and AI infrastructure.
Nebius (NBIS) shares declined 11%, while Oracle (ORCL) dropped another 9%. DigitalOcean (DOCN), Hut 8 (HUT), Cipher (CIFR), TeraWulf (WULF) and IREN (IREN) also recorded losses exceeding 10%.
The broad sell-off highlights growing investor sensitivity to the cost of financing the AI expansion. While demand for computing infrastructure continues to attract investment, rising borrowing costs and financing uncertainties are adding pressure on companies spending heavily to support AI growth.
